We Skype with Freddy every Thursday. Freddy is a Chinese teacher in Beijing. He tells us about China and teaches us how to speak Chinese.
Lesson 1:
Ni hao China
We learned about china and that it looks a bit like a rooster.
We saw where it was on the map. Freddy showed us some pictures of what it looks like in China. It looked busy with so many people and the roads had so many cars.
We learned how to say hello, Ni hao!
Now we can say hello to another 1,357,000,000 people!! WOW!!!
We learned how to say thank you, goodbye and
Lesson 2
We learned about the Great Wall of China. Did you know it is more than 21 000km long?! It was built to keep out people who wanted to attack china. It has little signal towers on it and if there was an attack they would burn wolf poo to signal to the other people on the wall using wolf smoke.
We learned how to say how are you? ni hao ma? we reply wo hen hao - I'm good.
Lesson 3
We practiced all the words we know. We learned about tones too. These are the marks over the words. The tones tell you how to say a word there are 4 tones
- means to say it flat so we put our arms out flat
/ means to say it going up (like asking a question) so we put our arms like we are shooting an arrow up
\ means to say it quickly so we made our hands chop down like Karate
V means to say it down and then up so we made a v shape with our arms.
It was lots of fun
We then learned a song called Ni Hao Panda
We are pretty good at it and it helped us practice our Chinese.
This week we learned how to introduce our selves using
We practiced introducing ourselves. Freddy helped to turn our names into Chinese names. Naomi will send him a list and he will translate them for us. It was really cool to see our names in Chinese characters.
We saw some pictures of Beijing. Did you know that when it was hot in Auckland last week, Beijing was being covered in snow? Not just a little snow but there was heaps of snow. So much that the trees looked like white clouds!
Keep up with the good job, room 12.
